All are welcome to join us February 23, 2014 for our Blini (Crepe) Dinner following the regular Divine Liturgy on Meatfare Sunday.  We will be serving blini (crepes) with many delicious fillings and toppings.

This celebration is the last day before Cheesefare Week (“Maslenitsa” in Russian),  when we prepare for Great Lent by removing meat from our diet.  For our church community, and for the rest of the Orthodox Church, it will be the last day until Pascha (Easter) that meat will be eaten.  And aside from that it is another opportunity for our church to grow together, and to welcome anyone who would like to join us in this festive day. We hope that you and your family or friends will come to be part of this occasion.

Divine Liturgy is at 9:30am.  Blini Dinner will follow not long after (around noon).

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

On January 11-12, 2014 our parish kept the Christmas season going with our Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday and our annual Yolka Christmas Party and fundraising dinner on Sunday.

The Children’s Christmas Party included traditional singing and dancing, Christmas skits, and even an appearance from Ded Moroz. Children, parents, and other parishioners alike enjoyed dressing up in costumes, playing games, eating food, and celebrating the Nativity of Christ, which was less than two weeks earlier.  Before the party on Saturday there was a special Divine Liturgy to remember the reason for these great festivities.

On Sunday after our regular Divine Liturgy we held our annual Yolka Christmas Party and fundraising dinner.  It was a fun opportunity to celebrate Christ’s birth together, to grow as a community, and to start our new year off on the right foot financially.  There was much singing, dancing, eating, and celebrating.  It was a fun time to enjoy the company of one another as we begin another year together as a church family.

SCRIPTURAL LECTURE/DISCUSSION IN PREPARATION FOR GREAT LENT – In an effort to better enable us to enter into the spirit of Great Lent, the gospel of the Publican and the Pharisee will be the topic of a lecture/discussion immediately before Vespers on Saturday, 23 February at 5:00 pm in the parish hall. The lecture/reflection will explore the themes of prayer (both the “how” and the “why”), one’s relationship with God and one’s neighbor, as well as the proper interior disposition necessary. Should there be sufficient interest, similar lectures/discussions/prayer may be offered on each of the following Saturdays of Great Lent at 5:00 pm, immediately preceding Saturday evening Vespers. Lecture will be conducted by Steven McGuigan.

The Scriptural Talk: Jesus’ Family Tree according to St. Matthew: God Does Write Straight Using Crooked Lines which will take place on Saturday, 22 December at 5 pm will attempt to provide the answers to these questions as well as help discover spiritual to enable you to get more out of St. Matthew’s gospel in general and the account of Jesus’ birth in particular.

On Sunday, January 8, 2012 we will once again be hosting our annual Christmas party “Yolka” in the church hall downstairs. On Sunday, December 4, volunteers will be needed to help stuff envelopes to be mailed to our parishioners and friends inviting them to our annual Yolka.
